Visitor Restrictions

Visitor restrictions to prevent spread of COVID-19

Last Updated: January 11 at 2:55 p.m. PT

为我们创造一个安全的环境tients and our health care workers during the COVID-19 outbreak, visitation will be limited at Banner Health locations. We understand this will be challenging, but we’re committed to take the necessary steps to protect you, your family, our health care workers and the community.

We continue to encourage virtual visits as the primary way to connect with your hospitalized loved ones, but for those who desire in-person visitation, the visitor restrictions set out below will apply.

For all Banner locations, a patient with a disability who, due to the specifics of the disability, requires assistance from someone in order to effectively participate in the health care process will be allowed to designate a support person to accompany the patient while in any Banner facility. Support persons must comply with all requirements imposed by the Banner facility to minimize the potential spread of infection.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Visitor restrictions for hospitals

Due to the prevalence of COVID-19 in some counties, stricter visitation practices are in place. Visitors must be 12 years old or older.

One visitor per patient per day will be permitted in in-patient areas.

There are a few exceptions to the visitor restrictions at Banner hospitals:

  • Laboring mothers may have one support person with them. Doulas may also be present with laboring mothers. Doulas will be required to bring their own personal protective equipment (PPE) and leave the hospital following the birth. Doulas will not be permitted if the mother has COVID-19 or is suspected to have COVID-19.
  • Visitation for end-of-life patients will be accommodated; two visitors will be permitted at a time, visitor rotation is allowed. Your loved one’s care team will provide you with more details.
  • These guidelines do not apply to behavioral health units. Visitors of behavioral units must check with the units directly to obtain visitation hours and guidelines.

Visiting hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily in Arizona and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in other Banner markets for non-COVID patients and 2 to 6 p.m. in all locations for COVID patients. COVID patients are allowed one visitor, per day, for up to one hour. Visitors must bring their own masks and wear them continuously while inside hospitals. Those who do not comply will be asked to leave the facility. COVID patient visitors will be required to wear PPE throughout duration of visit and the patient’s care team will share more details about that with visitors directly.

Visitors are subject to a health screening to ensure they are not exhibiting symptoms of respiratory illness. In addition, we ask that visitors remain inside patients’ rooms throughout the duration of their visits. They are not permitted to enter and leave the hospital multiple times on the same day.

Visitor restrictions for out-patient facilities

One companion (over 12 years of age) per patient will also be permitted in out-patient Banner care settings such as clinics, imaging centers, urgent cares, emergency rooms, etc. Companions of patients in out-patient locations will also be required to bring their own masks and wear them while inside the facilities. In addition, they will be subject to a health screening prior to entering the building.
