The Department of Pharmacy is fully automated with the use of automated dispensing cabinets and medication inventory management carousel technology. Our department provides 24-hour services, supported by over 50 full-time pharmacy personnel. We are also equipped with computerized physician order entry (CPOE) and electronic medication administration record (eMAR) through the CERNER program. With our highly functional clinical staff, we practice the decentralized pharmacy model with pharmacists located in specific nursing units to provide pharmaceutical care to patients.

Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix received Magnet™ accreditation from the American Nurses Association. As a major teaching hospital, we support 250 medical residents, 50 pharmacy students and 2,000 nursing students.

The Department of Pharmacy has implemented several novel clinical programs including management / monitoring in pain, solid organ transplant, anticoagulation, stress ulcer prophylaxis, and ICU sedation. The department was the recipient of the prestigious ASHP Best Practices Award for developing a novel clinical program with pharmacist prescriptive authority in the management of acid suppression therapy. Located in Tucson, Arizona, Banner – University Medical Center South (BUMCS) is a 245-licensed bed hospital.
