About Us

Women who have an abnormal screening mammogram or find a breast lump upon examination are encouraged to make an appointment atBanner MD Anderson Cancer Center Undiagnosed Breast Clinic at Banner Gateway Medical Center*. Patients may self refer or be referred by their physicians.

How does the Undiagnosed Breast Clinic work?

Patients are scheduled for a morning appointment with a physician in the clinic. All diagnostic testing needed for a diagnosis is conducted on the same day. This can include a diagnostic mammogram, MRI, ultrasound, biopsy and other tests. Patients receive the results within 48 hours.

What if the diagnosis is Breast Cancer?

For patients with a cancer diagnosis, an appointment with our breast cancer team is arranged within a few days. This can include a breast surgeon, medical oncologist and radiation oncologist, along with support staff. Our breast cancer team works together to create an individual treatment plan for each patient.

The advantage of this approach is that women receive a treatment plan developed by breast cancer experts in a matter of days, not weeks or months. Appointments can often be made on the same day for your convenience, and all are in the same location at the cancer center. Many of our physicians only treat breast cancer, and are experts in the treatment of all types of breast cancer. Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center provides a wide range of treatment options based on a woman’s individual diagnosis and personal needs.

What if the diagnosis is not cancer?

Abnormal mammograms do not always mean breast cancer. If testing does not show breast cancer, ongoing monitoring may be recommended. Some women may require future evaluation and others can return to their primary care physicians for annual screenings.
