Kimberly Lind, RN, BSN

K Lind“When I started with Banner in 2010, I was a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) on the Medical/Surgical floor. I worked there for the duration of nursing school. After graduation, I was hired in the same facility and made my new home the Emergency Department (ED). I onboarded and worked in the RD for a year and then began cross-training to the Medical/Surgical floor as an RN. While the ED is still my home, I wanted to advance my knowledge and gain new experiences by working in a different setting. I enjoy the atmosphere of the impatient units and the connection with the patients. Two years after having my RN, I went back to school and obtained by Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). This educational advancement opened new doors for me. I applied to become a Banner Nursing Adjunct Faculty Instructor and started teaching clinicals at my home facility for the local college. This position is part-time during the school year and compliments my shifts in the ED throughout the year.

I will never forget the first time I gave a patient tPA (a lytic drug given to stroke patients to help reduce long-term impairment). The patient arrived by EMS for stroke-like symptoms and she was unable to talk or move the left side of her body. Because of the amazing teamwork with EMS, our doctors and nurses, the patient received treatment in 13 minutes. Within 30 minutes, the patient’s symptoms had almost fully resolved and she was able to look up, smile, and say “I can talk.” Tears filled both of our eyes, and at that moment, I knew my heart would forever belong in the Emergency Department."
